I was driving and all of a sudden my car felt like it shut down then the ESP light came on then disappeared..happened twice. Any ideas?

Also replaced my tranny a few months ago and keep having rough downshifts..is that normal?

 

Have you checked your MAF?

 

Do you think it's the maf sensor or can it be the ecu?

 

I would try cleaning the MAF first, it can't hurt

 

doesn't sound like maf or engine to me, sounds more like wheel speed sensor, you didn't just spin a wheel did you? hit a slick spot ? that's enough to cut engine power for a bit and make the esp come on. as far as the rough downshift, mine does that too. I just don't use the shift buttons anymore, really kind of annoying anyway. i also get hard downshift before the engine warms up, thats only a minute or two but is really clunky.

 

I was in traffic going around 5 mph and it happened twice..might just be bad gas. This car has too many problems

 

Finally brought my car to the mechanics and they figured out the problem..tranny fluid was leaking outside of the transmission where they were supposed to replace some type of ring/tubes connected to the tranny..
Mechanic said it's a common problem that's why our car shifts a little funny
