Unhappy Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT install

Hey, Guys! First time poster here...and recent member to the club! Purchased my 2006 MB CLK-500 Cabrio last week, and I'm already ripping the stereo out. My car has the upgraded Harmon Kardon 7-speaker and amp system. Decided to plop in a Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT. I've got a couple questions though on wiring this guy up.

1) The navi system on the Pioneer has a lead that reads "Car Speed Signal Input". The documentation says that this is to help make the navigation more accurate. Ok, so my question is: where is the speed line in this car? Is this information available on the CAN Bus? If so, do I need some sort of adapter to get this information into the navi?

2) I have read and read and REREAD many posts about the stock stereo system in this car. I keep hearing people refer to the fiber optic system. And, I keep hearing that the fiber optics end prior to connection to the stock radio. My question is: as it pertains to the amp and the speakers, how much of the connections is fiber optic? In other words, is it fiber from the speakers to the amp, or is it just regular speaker wire? Is it fiber from the factory amp to the radio, or is it simply a remote wire like any other stereo amp I've played with?? I've heard people say that the Pioneer can simply be added and use the stock amp/speakers...and I've heard others simply state that they are ripping everything out and starting from scratch. I'd like to keep the factory amp and speakers, but I don't see how they connect to the radio. HELP!

I was successful in hooking up an aftermarket wire harness and getting the Pioneer to power up. I was also successful in getting the PAC-CAN2 and PAC-SWIPS adapters in place for making my steering wheel controls work with the stereo, so that rocks! I'm at a loss right now, though, getting the amp powered up and the speakers rockin' my jams. If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

J.P.

Can't help you with your problem, but I am days away from purchasing the same HU. Looking forward to the finished pics. Good luck with the install. The audio guys should chime in soon.

Thanks, man...I'll post pics when done. If you need help with the steering wheel controls, I'll post what I picked up. Everything works like a champ, once you figure out which line on the wiring harness is the CAN + and which is the CAN -. Gravy from there!

from what i remember. you will need a hi-lo converter. i am not familiar with the h-k systems and how their amps or speakers operate. but i am almost certain you will be needing a converter to convert the signals from your factory amp to hu.

from my experience the fiber optic only runs to the cd changer which you should throw out anyways since you can control an ipod/iphone at this point.

as for what converter you need, you might need to drop by a car audio shop and ask them. they would know best.

i would go with aftermarket speakers and sub if you have the opportunity to. def a big difference. i wish i had pics to document the speaker difference but the magnet is totally larger on my aftermarket compared to my stock. lol

i'll see if i can look up some stuff too.

ot: wes, im all tied up today so i'll give my guy a call 2m.

Really? That a good to hear because I have been reading that there isn't actually one for the face lifted 209's. Another member used a scoshe kit that was listed for all 209 but it had to be modified.

Here is the thread that is was mentioned that the Scoshe DD kit does not work in the face-lifted 209's. If a new kit has been added that does work, great!
