wheel well question

Hey Gang,

I'm a new owner of a 06 CLK55 and getting to know the car better each day.

Would anyone know why grey felt is used on the inside of the fender/wheel well. It attracts leaves, mud and anything else that comes off the tire and sticks to the felt.

Is there a practical purpose for the felt?

i have wondered the same thing for a while. I asked the local dealer when i was in for an oil change and he said the same thing as Eurotrash.

It's a little bit of work, but you could always get one of those roll on bedliner kits and hit it up. It dries almost like a urethane, just hose it off, and it would help even more with the sound deadening if you put it over the felt.
