Need help with suspension.....

Hey guys.

I need abit of help from you guys...

I had Eibach Pro Kit springs on my 208 and I was very impressed with them.

I am considering getting the same springs for my 63.

I believe that some of you have put them on your CLK's (209)... the CLK550 or 55's in particular, if I remember correctly.

Thing is, I can't find the CLK63 listed anywhere when looking for spring upgrades.

Do any of you know if the springs that are listed for the 550 or 55 will work with the 63?

Due to the rarity of the 63, I am finding it hard to find anyone who can help me with my queries.

I'm not even sure if the 63 has the same suspension setup as the 550's or 55's.... I was under the impression that 63's were given a new AMG suspension setup.

Also, I believe that the engine itself will also play a part too.

I think the CLK55 coupe weighs about 20-30 kg less than the CLK63 coupe.... I am guessing that this may be largely due to the different engine weights between the two cars.

Is anyone able to confirm any of this?

Cheers guys, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the EPC for one part # of the CLK63 springs ( 209 321 04 04), ran a search using that #, and only the CLK63 coupe and cab came up. It looks like those springs are only used in those models.

Hmmm, I see.

I'm going to have to find out if the Eibach springs for the CLK550/ CLK55 will be suitable for my car.

Might be pretty tricky to find out though.

Thanks for doing the search for me though! Much appreciated.

Did you get your car back alright this weekend?

Glad you got your car back ok.

Cool... I will check out your pics.

My diffuser installation is schedule for the 7th Jan.... depending on the weather though. We're under quite abit of snow at the moment.

Luckily, my bodyshop guy is only a mile down the road, so I just need to wait for a clear day when the roads are clear and then poodle down to him.

Rashman,

The springs for the 500's, 55's and any other CLK for that matter aren't going to work because the 63 use a totally different system - coil over strut rater than traditional spring/strut combination. I bought a set of BS strut bars and have learned a lot in regards to the differences between the 'regular' CLK's and the 63.

Kev, he doesn't have a BS. It's a regular 63, so it doesn't come with coil overs.

Ah, I took for granted it was a BS. I wonder though... does the 63 coupe have the same strut tower design as the BS and the cab use the 'regular' set up...? Long shot but enquiring minds want to know...

When I check the EPC it shows that the CLK63 Coupe (209.377) and the CLK63 Cab (209.477) share the same spring part #s, but different shock/strut #s. The BS is the only one that uses the coil over setup.

Hey guys!

Thanks for showing such an interest in this topic.

Yes, my 63 is the CLK63 AMG and not the BS.

It seems to be alot rarer, even more so than the BS, hence the trouble I am having finding answers.

My CLK63 has a traditional spring and shock setup... I'm just not sure if it the same setup as the 550's & 55's - I've not had a chance to inspect a 550 or 55 up close.

As I mentioned, I'm sure that the 63's (other models too, not just the CLK) were given a newer AMG suspension setup. Catalgues and brochures that I have on the 63's also seem to confirm this.

Are any of you able to confirm whether the above mentioned spring part number matches the part number for your springs?

It may not, but it's worth a shot.

I could confirm that it's not. Here is the info for the CLK63 coupe front springs and the CLK500/55 front springs. You could see that all the springs they use for the CLK500s/55s all start with (203), meaning they were also used for the C-class. The springs that come on the 63 start with (209). You could see the difference in the parts search. Using the 63 spring #, it brings up only 2 application, the cab and coupe. Using one of the 500/55 spring #s, it brings up a whole mess of models.
