I need a clarification. Is "poor midrange performance" related to gear position or tachometer indication?

RJC - what's the age of your W209? What TSB problems are still occurring? Where did you find the TSB information?

Here is a link to an actual Service Bulletin published by MB and reported to the NHTSA. This SB is to address the engine mount replacement for the W209.375.

CLKK3K4:

My 03 was a jan build. I no longer own it and now have an 04, so far the 04 is much better than the 03 BUT it still has the motor mount issue!!! HOWEVER I did find out that the noisier mounts are of a newer design than the ones they're using as replacements. I also get the engine cooling fan vibration when it goes into high speed, not as bad as my 03 but still not right. MB is way too slow getting this stuff corrected during manufacture and leaving it for the dealers to fix which gets them poor initial quality ratings! I've decided to leave mine alone and hopefully avoid the service department as much as I can. Service bullitens are/were available from MBTECH 208, he used to post quite a bit until some rude member gave him some ***** on a post, his presence unfortunately has been rare but he say's he'll be back more often

STEVE 1173:

Sorry to hear about the engine problems, I hope they get it right, keep us posted. FYI MB Mass flow sensors are known for this type of problem. Get the shop foreman involved with your car if its still not right. Best of luck

Shop foreman, lead tech & service manager involved. I believe same dealership that you use, Glauser. Spoke with them yesterday, they changed the coils & wires & so far does not show miss on computer but the codes show it happens at 1/2 throttle & they could not test drive yesterday because of the rain so they have it the weekend. They asked me if they could take it home so it could be driven since the 2nd time it happened after 100 miles, I said no & they said it might happen again after I brought it home as I live about 40+ miles from them. Well if it does it will be the 3rd time for the same problem which I believes qualifies for the lemon law here in Florida. No luck with cars, bought a SLK230 that the dealer bought back after 2 months, regional rep was originally of no help but finally came through after I wrote a letter & called MB about the rep. Dealer though is great & hope I don't have to go the lemon law route with them as I didn't with the SLK. With that one every time they fixed something another thing would go bad. Last time drove out with a problem fixed & the instrument cluster failed as I was driving away. About my CLK500 they did not say anything about the Mass Flow Sensor, they are basically saying that they are guessing right now.

Steve,

Basically MB techs call a special phone # that gives them the direction to take for each specific problem they need help with. MB can send a technical specialist to work with the shop foreman etc on your car if they still can't get it right. Please have them replace the Mass flow sensor and see if the problem goes away, it can't hurt and they can still put the old one back. Once I had a new 300CE that started to run very poorly and the local dealer replaced almost everything that was fuel or electronic related....guess what, it turned out to be bad gas, they drained and cleaned the fuel system refilled it and no more problem.

Glauser is a great dealership and I'm sure they will help you with another car...see if they have any new 03's left over and ask for an even trade if you're still having problems after their attempts next week. At least they are acknowledging there still is a problem.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Will let youknow Monday how I make out. Don't think they will change the mass air flow until it happens again since I got the speech that they have to send the parts back to MB & if not defective they have to pay for it. Will see the sales manager though & let him know in a nice pleasant non threatening way because with Glauser they will work with you that if it comes back again 3rd time same thing either we work to trade it out even or I file lemon law.

To RJC

Seems like you have as much luck as I do. I remember the dealer bought yours back before. I believe we have the same dealer in florida. They bought back my SLK also, My CLK500 when it had 800 miles was in 2x for check engine, missing, they had to replace all the wires as well as other parts, at the time they found 1 1/2 qts. too much oil & blamed on the factory & tey changed with mobil one correct amount, now my 2003 CLK500 with 1600 miles is acting up, check oil light, reduce oil is on, also the temp gauge is now 80 instead of close to 100. Have no idea why it keeps building up oil itself. Any ideas.

Could anyone me more specific about that rotor redesign problem so that I can claim to the dealer. I can't stand my break squeeeeekkkkss...

Thanks!

You dont have a pull to the right problem? My build for my CLK 500 cabrio is 12/03 with the motor mount issue, pull to the right, midrange power, etc. But, If you don't notice anything to complain about don't stress it. Enjoy it!

My 2003 CLK500 had the pull to the right problem even after the motor mounts were replaced. Dealer spent a few hours doing a four wheel alignment as the alignment was way off from the factory. My 2003 SLK230 is also off as well as the streering whell off center. Both have under 2000 miles. What is with the quality control at the factory, I thought Mercedes Benz stood for quality but with all the problems I doubt it. This is also my 2nd SLK as the dealer bought my first one back with numerous continuing problems at that had 1300 miles on it.

pull 2 the right

Actually the pull to the right problem is ONLY solved if they replace some sort of bolts to the front end. A regular 4 wheel alignment does NOT fix this. Its a TSB notice problem so have your advisor call someone about it.
