Fuel gauge error?

Hi guys, in the afternoon today the fuel gauge still had like about 5 bars, but suddenly it dropped to one, so i thought maybe i should pump the fuel. but after i pumped a little bit the fuel gauge is still on one bar. Any of you experiencing this error? And im also wondering why is that my car only getting a 14 MPG inside the town

I usually fill it to the top and the gauge fills up immediately, but if I fill it with like $10 it takes a little time for the gauge to gain bars....but it shouldn't last a long time
