0-60 technique?
I was having some tires mounted on Saturday and while in the waiting area I picked up an issue of Road & Track (I think it was R&T - one of the big three anyway) that had a road test of the E550, which I assume has an identical engine and tranny to the CLK550. They posted a 4.6 0-60 time. But they never describe exactly how they run the test on cars like these. Do they just turn off ESP on the dash or put it in dyno mode or neither? Do they basically keep the pedal mashed and use the paddles/shifter to manually shift each gear right at redline? Just curious if anybody knew. That time is a full .6 sec off what MB advertises.

Mercedes-Benz is usually quite conservative with their 0-60 times. The window sticker on the CLK550 claims a 5.1s 0-60 time. It was never tested by any major publications, but they've all tested the CLS550 and E550 and their 0-60 times are well under 5.0s. The CLK is several hundred pounds lighter than both with the same powertrain.....
