Seems like most people are voting for two secondary cats, why is that? wouldn't i be better of putting one 300 cell cat after my factory y pipe before the muffler? more power/ rumble?

EDIT: CLK550's don't have any secondary cats, so i won't be installing one...that would be stupid, i'd just be taking power away from my car. Gonna look for a more restrictive muffler than Borla i guess now?

BUMP: Just an update. I installed the Borla Muffler and the car sounds 10x better. The last thing i'm gonna do it delete the X-pipe and go with Stock Headers -> Bubble resonators -> Y-pipe -> Borla Muffler and tips. From what i been reading the X-pipe and Y-pipe do the same exact thing..so i'm just restricting air-flow by putting a X then a Y. Since my Muffler is a ONE in TWO out ill have to keep the y-pipe. Feedback?

If you don't have a true dual set up or if you are converging the runs with a Y, you don't need an X. An X is to balance the two banks out, you are doing that when you combine into a single run like what I did.

Good to konw, pretty much the X-pipe just restricts flow? My OEM Y-pipe is a bit torn up so i hope the exhaust shop can built me a Y-pipe that goes into the clamp right before the muffler.

The X pipe will just create turbulence in your system, it wont really hurt much but it certainly isn't helping anything. Y pipes are easy to repair/fab up, I'm sure your guys wont have any issues at all.

What does turbulence do? I get a high pitch sound when i floor it, like a whistle of some sort, could this be because of the turbulence the x-pipe causes? it never did that when the OEM exhaust was on, it's only does that since i switched my system. It can't be the muffler b/c i replaced it already. I'm thinking a leak somewhere, or the x-pipe?

The simplest way to explain turbulence vs air flow is that it will slow it down, you don't want that in your exhaust system. 99% of the time a whistle is a leak or a rough edge near the end section of the exhaust. Not saying this is absolutely your issue but in my experience that's what you want to look for.

Good luck.

There IS a leak on the Y-Pipe of the tips-and it's funny because when i stick a screw driver in that side, it's not as smooth and solid as the other sides. Perhaps it's a leak and a rough edge on the welding?

That very well might be the source of the whistle mate.
