High Beams on 2009 CLK Cab
I recently traded my 2007 for a 2009 CLK Cabriolet. It seems that Mercedes changed the headlight setting and that you now have to actually turn the lights on to use high beams? The high beams don't work if the light switch is set to "O" or "auto". Is this true or am I experiencing user error? It seems there are a few tweaks on the 2009 that don't make sense - like the windows not automatically rolling up after putting the top down???

Read the manual its all in the way you set the settings up in the dash controls as far as the window go. On the high beams I think you MAY be doing something wrong.

Hi Louie,
Thanks for the response. I asked Mercedes about the windows not automatically rolling up after putting the top up or down and they said it was changed from 2007 because of saftey concerns. I guess people (or maybe dogs - lol) put their heads out the window immediately after the top went down?
I still have no confirmation on the high beams though other than the owners manual seems to support the fact that the lights must be in the "on" position to work. It doesn't make sense though to me? Maybe someone with a 2009 can confirm for me??

The manual for my 2008 says the same about the high beams. I had a 2007 previously and high beams and fog lights worked fine in auto position.
The last time I drove in auto at night in the '08 the high beams seemed to work fine, as did the fog lights... I am not sure why since the manual clearly states that it won't.
Have you tried yours or just taken the manual as gospel? I am wondering if someone modified mine from the factory setting.

Just read my manual again. It seems the no high beam in auto applies only to Canadian cars. Has something to do with the daytime running lights required in Canada I suppose.
