Newbie with problems

Hi Guys, I just joined and intend to be around for awhile. I was told that you guys are great to communicate with and are very helpful. The reason I joined is because I need help with my CLK 500. My wife hit a racoon recently and now the left fog light mesh is missing. The racoon must have taken it with him as he ran off because when I returned to the scene of the crime, I couldn't find any trace of it. There is some slight damage to the corner of the valance but I can repair that. Any ideas where I can find a replacement mesh and a few clips? Thanks

Hi Perry and welcome!
You can find those parts at parts.com. The parts are usually 50% cheaper than getting them from the dealership.

Part# for left fog light mesh is 209 885 01 53. It costs $84 at parts.com. It doesn't get any cheaper than that

I would search ebay for a couple weeks. You don't want to order something like that form the dealer, they'll probably want $15,000 for it or something ridiculous. Depending on how much they want/finding just that piece in general, you might be better off just getting a whole front bumber off ebay for $200-$350 or so.

parts.com if you want it right now.

if you can hold off, there are some ebay used ones once and awhile like all the above mentioned.

Thanks for the info. I looked it up at parts.com. I have checked ebay in the past with no luck. I guess the best keywords would be ''CLK fog light mesh''. Do you agree?

Here is another dilema I have. The gear shift bezel will not stay put. Everytime I put it in drive, the bezel pops out of the hole. Is this common? What's a good fix for this?

is it that the bezel is not tightly on or that the leather boot around it is too tight?

Maybe the leather boot has shrunk causing the bezel to pull out of the hole when pulled into drive. I wonder how I should go about streching the leather? The bezel seems to clip in OK. There are no broken clips.

Welcome to the board, sorry to hear about the racoon, but if you gotta go, go first class...

If the chrome bezel is poping out when you shift to drive it sounds like maybe some of the clips are broken. If the leather had shrunk enough to cause a problem I would think it'd be so dry it would have cracked and torn. The leather boot is secured to the bezel in a spring loaded type configuration, I would think that would pop out before the bezel trim?

It turns out that the clip on the right side, in the middle of the bezel, is broken. I wouldn't think that particular clip would keep it in place but evidently it does.

bheng, do you think you could dig out that bezel?

That makes sense, glad you could hunt down the issue.
