Winter wheels and tires

I'd like to get an extra set of wheels with snow tires mounted on them for my 2004 CLK500. That way I can just swap wheels for the winter, and not have to keep remounting different tires on my existing wheels. It's a strategy I used on my previous car, and it worked out pretty well for me.

The problem is, I'm having a hard time with wheel sizes. Since these are strictly winter wheels, I'm not interested in spending any more than necessary, so I'd definitely like to stick with 17" wheels. However, if I go to Tirerack and look for wheels, they have absolutely no 17" wheels that they say will fit - the smallest they list are 18s, and of course there are no snow tires that will fit them.

I notice that if I change the car to a CLK320 on Tirerack's site, there are plenty of 17s available - are there really 17s that would fit on a 320 but not a 500, or is Tirerack just giving me some bogus information? I figure the rears are different, but I thought at least the fronts would be the same. If I were to get 7.5" wheels all around, would I need to put spacers on the back to prevent it from looking weird, since the car normally has 8.5" wheels in back?

Basically, I'm wondering if any of you have any info that would help me here. I'm interested in either a place where I can buy a set of reasonably priced wheels that will fit a CLK500, or perhaps a list of other Mercedes models that use compatible wheels, on the off-chance that I could find someone selling some used stock wheels.

I'm totally new to the Mercedes world, so any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated!

if you are using these for winter wheels, why dont you just get a set of replica wheels that you can swap on.

powerwheelspro has some good selection, 600 for set and pick your own tires.

Buy a used set of OEM wheels in a CLK stagger. Check the classifieds here. There is always a ton for sale. Next week my summer stuff comes off, and winter is going on. It is the best setup to preserve both.

If you are getting dedicated winter wheels, you should consider the non-staggered configuration. Easier to buy tires and you can rotate your itres.

I was kinda leaning towards non-staggered if I could do it, expressly so that I could rotate. My concern is that I don't know if I would need spacers on the back.

I found an offset calculator online, and if I'm plugging in the right numbers, my rear wheels would move inward by 19mm on each side, which I worry would look funny. Has anyone put non-staggered wheels on a car that was originally set up to have them?
