Thumbs up SOLVED: W209 2004 Instrument cluster and gaudge problem need help quick

i recently bought a used CLK 2004 cabrio, i noticed something fishy about the instrument cluster but didn't take it into consideration, but after trying to fix the Cruise Control stick i found that the problem is the cluster. it is i think for the 2005 W209 the white gauges one, and i think it is for a coupe not a cabrio and US model meaning the counters are in miles.

the cluster is changed it doesn't show the following:
it shows a higher odometer count.
it doesn't show the roof opening and closing.
it conflicts with the cruise control.
Conflicts with the command as it doesn't allow me to change the frequency.
No Nav screen.
Shows tel off instead of input telephone.
I suspect that some malfunctioning errors are not showing.

This being said, i don't know if i can do an online SCN programing I live outside the US and we here deal in Kilometers, i asked the dealer here and they told me that they don't reprogram it and that i must purchase a new instrument cluster that will come programmed.

so the question is what can i do? i was told by the mechanics here that i have to change the cluster with one for a cabrio and that it will need some IC programming to fit and work but i am not sure of their capability to do it correctly, another solution is to take a try at programming the one i have.

Can anything be done with SDS to reprogram it offline i doubt the online option can be done.

Where are you located (I can guess by your screen name) and where did you buy the CLK from?

If the instrument cluster was rlaced in your car without proper codi it will cause a host of issues. Some Euro markets use the MPH clusters as well so it might not be a US replacement. What you should do first is get the part number off the top of the cluster (you'll have to pull it out to get to the tag) and check with MB and see if it's compatible, if so, you probably just need recoding. If it's not compatible then you will need to replace it.

I went through all this when I bought my CLK, the cluster worked fine but I wanted to upgrade to the facelift gauges, I think it took 3 separate cluster orders to get it right. I hope you just need coding because a new cluster is ridiculously expensive.

Don't suppose the dealer has a warranty on the car do they?

The solution that fixed it

I went to a shop here recommended by my mechanic, he had xentry diagnostics that he hooked up to my car and reprogrammed the instrument cluster, now what he couldn't do is the odo meter which i left above the true millage because it needed to wipe the IC of the cluster clean and reprogram the whole thing from scratch.

for my good luck my car had the 2005 options and wiring so it was easy, for those who have older models and want new clusters from newer ones they should get a temp car of model 2006 any Merc works hook the cluster to it then use Xentry or SDS to program the cluster on that car, after that unhook the cluster and hook it on your car and reprogram the bus features, the only thing that may not work is the steering controls so make sure you test the cluster for these first.
