Looking into a CLK55

Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying a CLK55 and need some advice. It's an 05 and has 64k miles. What should I expect in terms of maintenance for its mileage? I also spotted some work that needs to be done on the car:

Front rotors need replacement
Rear brake pads
Valve cover leak
Heated seat button doesnt work
Steering wheel column doesnt move

Having mentioned these issues how much can I bargain off the price? And is it worth trading in my 05 clk320 with 44k miles on it?

Thanks a ton

Any advice? I'm seriously considering it but wouldn't want to do anything rushed.

Both cars are nice... tough call.

I'm assuming if you can trade-in its a dealer. No chance of them fixing the items? Couple of them wouldn't pass an MVI.

IMHO I would pass... and search on.

Yea its a dealer. I can get most of the parts and labor for around 2000. It's just a stunning color combination.

If I were you I'd be all over that car, $2K in initial repairs - peanuts IMO.

If that car is as clean as it looks in the pics, I probably would not let those repairs scare me away. Heck, I don't even like chrome wheels but I think they look good on that car. But it if you have not already, I'd spend the money to have the repairs without a known cost diagnosed for sure. Rotors have a known cost. But when you say seat heater button, does it need a button, or new heater units or what? Ditto with the steering column. That's the sort of stuff that seems minor but then they tell you a new part is some ridculous price. As long as you don't step into the unknown, that looks like a nice car.

To answer your other question, I've never traded in a car in my life. You can almost aways sell them outright for more.

Come look in the CLK AMG section, we talk about a lot of the known issues:

Esp this thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/clk55-amg...-problems.html

The 05' CLK AMG is the best year (I'm a little biased ). All the final updates and huge brakes. Sadly the convert didn't get the quad exhausts.

I bought my coupe for about the same price at 48K miles.

Those front brakes are going to be EXPENSIVE, I think the cheapest rotors we found are ~$450/each.

Rear pads shouldn't be too much $$

The valve cover leak is a known issue. Can do it yourself for ~$30/ each side but its a bit of a pain. My mechanic quoted me $300 for everything.

The rest of if I can't help you with other than check the fuses. There is a fuse box in the driver-side front and driver-side rear. There was a little fuse diagram in the driver-side of the dash on mine (little panel pops open if you have the door open). You have basically the same car you should know where they're at :P

Its a nice step from a 320 but not a HUGE jump, in my opinion. Only 662 were made
