Hmmm, I've just done the quickest of searches and it appears that the front MB sway bar bracket changed in either 2004 or 2005 and does not work with the bushings supplied in the H&R kit. So, one would guess that we need the 2003 bracket... Maybe one of you guys State-side can call H&R Nd ask them if this is true, if so, they most certainly have the part number on hand.

I spoke to H&R this AM and the deal is that some 209's have a smaller bracket and will need to be replaced with the larger bracket for the FSB to work. If you have the larger bracket, you are golden.

He sent me a copy of the tech sheet (attached) here so you can eyeball under your car and see if you need them or not.

There is a DIY in the W203 section. The front looks really easy, the rear appears to be more difficult.

There is a place close to me in the (818) that H&R lists as a distributor on their website, so I'll order from them.

I finally had the H&R front and rear sway's installed yesterday at Sovereign Motors(MB dlr.) They ordered the brackets and bolts for me. They also changed left and right Sway links under warranty. Car feels much better now! My end link bolts were 10mm.

Congrats! I was quite impressed with the improvement in conering stability. Did you use the longer or shorter length adjustment? I used the longer and was thinking of using the shorter length mounting.

I used the shorter length, feels much tighter and controllable than before. I really like the car now.

This all begs the question: why wouldn't the car come this way in the first place? If everyone agrees it rolls too much from the factory (as do I), then why does MB make it that soft in the first place? Seems like such a logical, simple thing to do right from the beginning.

I would guess they design/configure the car for the "middle" of the targeted audience. Keep in mind that it is a luxury car and has, in some circles, been referred to as a "girlie" car... (I think she is one tough girl) There is probably a lot of love from many CLK owners who have never spoken the word performance when referencing their car....

Does the CLK55 come with the same factory sways as the 500 or 550? Would the 55 benefit from the H&R's?

I could not tell from the parts diagrams for the 55 and 550, but the h&r parts are the same for a W209 clk55 or CLK550. The parts and diameters are different for the W208s (clk55, 430, etc).

+1. Like with many other car models there are different levels of performance packages. If you want the sports package with the upgraded suspension you buy AMG (or M or Type R, etc.).

So the 55 has upgraded suspension versus 500/550, but the sways are the same?

That is my understanding, yes. Driving both cars (OEM), they were virtually the same, very, very slightly more road feel in the 55 but not a great setup by any means.

There are three diameters of sway bars for the W209 - 20mm, 21mm and 22mm for the V6, V8 and AMG, respectively.

Is that right? I wonder if the previous owner had changed the sways out on my car then because the OEM part number matched up with the sway off a '05 55

Maybe the 22mm is for the CLK63 and the CLK55 used the 21mm like the CLK500/550? I know there are three part numbers and three sizes shown in EPC and my CLK550 uses the 21mm. Daughter's W203 C240 uses the 20mm.
