I think I can understand what he meant. If one ask him which one of his cars is faster and he said the Clk550 is faster then the "AMG". Well, the AMG were support to be a special car because is carry an "AMG" badges and got beat by a non-AMG model. Seriously, I would be disappointed too if let just said my Clk is an Clk550 and it beat my Slk55.

On paper, they have identical 0-60 times, but again, the higher torque/hp and faster-shifting 7-speed in the 550 wins (your CLK55 engine is identical in specs to the C55).

Now, don't confuse this with other "55" AMG models like the E55, SL55, CL55 or S55, since those are all supercharged and pumping out 500+/- hp.
I raced a clk550 last year, well tbh it was a 500 but its the same thing. From a red light he got the jump and stayed 3/4 of a car ahead of me.
Next week I came back with a ECU tune from Powerchip and spanked him from the redlight onto the highway and every highway pull I had him by 3-4cars.
So I do spank 550s...

I don't know which country you're from but in the US, the Clk500 and Clk550 is not the samething. There's an 80 hp different. Only in Euro that is the samething.

Overseas and here in Dubai the 07+ 550's are still called 500's (S, CL, SL, CLK, etc.). They have the 5.5 but the badge did not change.

I do! The C55 is been with me for a few years now and the CLK550 I got a couple weeks ago. The CLK550 is a fun car for sure and I enjoy it very much but the C55 has a special place in my heart...

Like Kev said here in Europe late model MB's still carry the 500 badge. The U.S. to my knowledge is the only country that carries 550 even tho the 500 has the same updated engine and same specs. Americans just like bigger numbers...

its makes more sense lol...

- There isnt any independant test on the 550. Even the euro tests on the 500 say "manufacturer stated" for all the speed tests

Thanks. I just looked up Car & Driver road tests.

E550 coupe (MB curb weight = 3773lbs)
0-60mph: 4.8 sec
1/4 mile: 13.3 sec @108mph
5-60mph: 5.1 sec

C55 AMG (MB curb weight = 3540lbs)
0-60mph: 4.7 sec
1/4 mile: 13.3 sec @ 108mph
5-60mph: 4.9 sec

CLK550 (MB curb weight = 3720lbs)
0-60mph: ?
1/4 mile: ?
5-60mph: ?

The CLK550 is not that much lighter than the E550 coupe, so I doubt the CLK550 is SO MUCH faster than the E550 or C55 AMG.

I think it all depends on your definition of "destroy", and I don't think a CLK550 would "destroy" a C55. In (American) football terms, it's more like a 21-20 win, where to "destroy" would be more like a 35-0 shutdown.

Some of you claim that the CLK550's non-AMG 7 speed transmission shifts faster than the AMG Speedshift 5 speed transmission that the C55 has. I don't buy it, unless you show me some documentation. As far as I know, the C55's Speedshift AMG transmission in S and M modes shifts 35% faster than non-AMG slushboxes.
In a straight-line race, the AMG transmission is going to shift faster between single gears, but the 7Gtronic can do something the AMG-modified 722.6xx can't do - it can skip gears. The 5-speed has to go sequential up or down one gear step at a time. The 7G can skip up to two gears, so it can downshift directly from 5th to 2nd without stopping at 4th or 3rd. This can make a huge difference, but not in a zero-start drag race.

And on a road coarse (with turns), I would put my money on the C55 being faster with regards to laptimes as the AMG tuned chassis has higher skidpad grip and slalom speeds, ESP retuned to mimic a mechanical LSD, and a transmission that allows for complete manual control in M mode.
Probably, except the balance of the W203 is not as good - it's a bit more nose-heavy. The CLK550 is 52/48 where the C55 is 55/45.

I actually can't find any road test of the CLK550 from Road & Track, Car & Driver, or Motortrend. Please post some objective test numbers if you have them.
I know I found one when I was shopping form my CLK. I'll keep looking. It was fairly interesting as the writer went into this whole dissertation about how in the past, the CLK got a bit of a short-billing with it's non-supercharged 5.5l in the AMG option, and now it gets the full Monty as the CLK63.

Well said. I see the words "killed", "destroyed", "blew away" used to describe races all the time. I don't think many guys actually go to a track and race, it's mostly all light to light or from a roll on a highway. If these guys went to an actual track and ran the 1320 they would see that a win by a car length or two is hardly "destroying" anyone. Put a second or more in between You and the guy in the next lane, that's getting beat down...

I would have no problem running a CLK550.

Has anyone taken their CLK550 to the dragstrip?

I drove, a CLK550, it did not seem faster than a CLK55 stock for stock. Pretty comparable. THe CLK550 was definitely more floaty though.

Lol. Less than 1.5 tenths is not 3 cars. Keep in mind not only was my d/a worse, the wind was horrible the day I went to the strip.

For giggles I used that D/A correction calculator on drag times.

My CLK55 AMG - 12.878 @ 109.644 MPH

His CLK550 - 12.839 @ 109.051 MPH

Driver's race IMO.
