Catalyc Converter replacement
I took the car to a dealer and an indy mercedes only shop and they tell me there's something inside the catalyc converter that either fell apart or something built up inside that is moving around when the car is running which is causing the terrible noise.
They also tell me that the car has 2 catalyc converters and both needs to be replaced together and with the way the clk's exhaust is designed, I need to replace pretty much the entire piping from the header down to the muffler along with the catalyc converter which sits in the middle of the piping.
I figure if I'm gonna dish out $1500 to replace the piping, I might as well do it with a good ones that can actually help with the performace of the car and also give me a little bit(literally, a bit more) of aggressive grumbling sound which I always thought my car needed.
I don't want those rowdy noise making devices.
There seems to be a discussion about straight pipes and whatnot but when I search for them I can't seem to find muc info on them.
Can I get some help as to where to look to find some aftermarket exhaust system for my clk500?
Any recommendation would be helpful too in terms of products and perhaps shops in Chicago area.
Thank you.

As for exhaust setups, you have too many options.
You could do straight pipes using either an x-pipe and/or a muffler (Borla or Magnaflow). Search for exhaust threads for more info and ideas)
A setup shouldnt run you 1500$.
Best of luck

Now if I used the cats elijah has mentioned, it fits as a part of the whole straight piping right? There woudnlt be a way to simply replace the current cats with the new ones without replacing the pipe from what I gather?
Also, forgive me for my ignorance on the topic but do I just go to any muffler shops and ask for a staright piping? Who does these types of work?
Do I need to order all of the parts and ask the shop to install them? If so, where can i find thse packages? Oh and jus one more thing, where does a resonator fit into the whole picture?
Thanks in advance for your help.
