Gas Brands

Have an 03 CLK500 been using premium 93 octane but curious about different brands. Not talking about using Sams Club or Costcos but the main brands. Are there any especially liked or recomended. I been using Hess mainly but also Amoco, Shell & Mobil. What do you use & especially what brands to avoid.

I have been in the energy business a long time. The only gasoline to try to stay away from is gasoline refined from high sulphur crude oil. The only brand one can readily identfy is Citgo which is refined from Venuzulean high surphur crude. Citgo is owned by the Venezuelan national oil company Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.

BMW years ago recommended Chevron because of the Techron additive in their premium. BMW experienced some problems in the mid-nineties on their v-8's due to an adverse reaction to high sulphur gasoline.

I buy gas from the local Texaco. The three grades, regular, mid and premium are 87, 89, and 93.

I have a friend that owns a few Mercedes, and he buys from the cheapest place he can find, and buys Citgo regularly. I will let him know that its not worth it.

What are the negatives to high sulfer gas?

Everywhere EXCEPT California. You can get racing fuel at some 76 stations. Got to http://www.76.com and click Store Locator.

Everyone should remember though..

..that using a higher octane than recommended by the manufacturer is a waste of money.

91 oct is the highest in California. I usually go to the gas station with the cheapest price which is one of the 76 near my house. However, I do find that Shell which I filled up once in a while somehow makes the car run more powerful.

Is there really a difference between different gas brands to speak of? I always thought it was bogus the oil companies was trying to get us to believe to get brand loyalty, hence I’ve been buying the cheapest at the specified octane.

Currently I’m running Cosco at 91 octane (California) for both my CLK and ML.

I have no technical knowledge on the matter though. Should I change ?

Cheers

although costco's gas is cheap, but I don't feel confident to fill up there because it's too cheap even compare to Arco.
