Air Filters & Pulleys - are they worth it?

In my process of making my list and buying mods, I've wondered about air filters and the crank pulley. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find the answer.

Air Filters:
From what I read, paper replacement filters are just as good as aftermarket. I've seen some dyno claims of 5 HP.

Pulley:
As far as pulleys, I can't find any info from the past year. The vendors don't seem to carry them anymore or the vendor isn't in business (AMS). I read 1 dyno claim of 15 HP.

Does anyone know from personal experience or have dyno results they'd like to share? I'm just looking for the bang for the buck stuff for now. So far headers, tune and finishing my exhaust are on my list for performance items.

Thanks all,
Kyle.

From what I understand, the best thing you can do for the 5.5l M273 engine is Kleeman headers and their ECU tune. Of course that means deleting the cats, so if you have emissions inspections, you might not pass if they do a tailpipe check. Also, it's technically a federal offense.

Thanks Rodney.

From what I've read on the forum, $80 for filters plus $350 for the pulley wouldn't be worth it.

Nope, filters will do no good. The dual stock filters already breathe very well. K&N will do nothing but foul the MAF sensor. The pulley will gain a bit by lowering the drag from accessories on the belt, but again, that's not much. FYI, the latest iteration of M273 from MBZ puts out 388hp, so a gain of only 2% by factory tuning. Most ECU tunes purport a 10% increase. Headers are the way to go, but like I said, the trade off is legality. Now, if someone would just make a supercharger for the M273...

Seeing that you have a clk550, I would say a tune would be the best bang for the buck. It seems to really wake up that motor from a previous members results who got a mail tune. I'd recommend getting a dyno tune from eurocharged. I believe you can get one for somewhere around $500. You will gain at least 15whp and get improved response from your car.
