Air Intake for Cabin Ventilation
I may have mildew in my ventilation system. I am thinking to spray some strong air freshener into the vents and run the car in "Recir" mode for a while.
Many cars have the air intake under the wipers, how about in a w209?

You have a charcoal/graphite cabin air filter located on the passenger side, under the hood.
If you know where the battery is... the Cabin Air Filter is directly above it. Release the three (or is it four) clips, and the plastic holder can be lifted off.
I sprayed a good bit of Febreeze in my air intake. I do not like artificial scents so my choice was the original Febreeze which has no lingering aroma. I also went to my local NAPA store and purchased a new OEM, perfect fit, Mann filter.
Worked for me.

An air freshener wont kill the bacteria, mold and fungus, you need to use something like this;
http://www.auto-unique.co.uk/carplan...fier-214-p.asp
It works fantastic, you just open the can, put it on the floor in the back seat area, close the doors and let the AC system run for a while - done.

I went to local Canadian Tire and could not find this Carpath Kleen Air so I bought the Emzone Odor Stop instead.
It works like the Carpath product, activates it behind the passenger seat and runs the car in "Recir" and full AC for 10 minutes. I just did the procedure and will report back if it works or not.
I also saw Febreze Auto in the same shelf. Not sure if I should buy it and spray into the air intake (behind the cabin filter).
BTW, I did replace the carbon charcoal filters 2 weeks ago. As for the cabin filter, I took it out and it looks clean and no smell.

Unfortunately, this Emzone thing did not work. I used 2 cans and ran the car in Recir mode for 15 minutes each time.
I talked to my MB service adviser and the procedure to remove mildew in the verification system costs $250. He also said that the mildew should go away in winter time due to the cold weather.
I may wait because the bad smell only comes on in the first minute or so when I start the car. My main concern is I'm not sure if these mildew will cause any health issues though.
