Dead dome light

The dome light that comes on automatically and then dims out is dead. But the light you can switch on manually still works. Is this an electrical problem or are there really two different lights?

This is for an '04 CLK500 Cabriolet.

Thanks!

Are you sure you are leaving the switch in the middle position? It's a three-position switch: ON, AUTO, OFF. Maybe you are pushing it to the second click to OFF? I think this is controlled via the EZS through the CAN bus, so if the light works at all, I don't know why it wouldn't work with the door open. Oh, I guess that begs another question - is your door sensor working? When you open and close the door, does the seatbelt presenter respond? If not, maybe that door switch is the culprit.

Dang, I could have sworn I checked that but, sure enough, the switch was in the wrong position. Well, at least that's a cheap fix! D'oh!

THANKS!

I'm glad that was it. Ironically, that same day, a coworker had the same problem in her Infiniti. She didn't even realize there was a switch there at all and had no idea how it got turned off.
