Buying a 2009 CLK350
Im Buying a 2009 CLK350 amg package tomorrow with 36k miles for $21000. Just wanted to know if the 2009's were in the clear of the egine issues in the past. Also is there any other issues to be aware of

Congrats! From what I know they are well within the clear but Im not 100% sure. You should contact rudeny to run the vin. If I were you I wouldn't buy it until he does but that's just me...
good luck either way with your purchase!

By MY2009, they should have exhausted the stock of engines in the affected range, but to be sure, post the VIN and I'll check for you. And FYI, a CLK350 with the AMG sport appearance package is rare - I believe it was only available for MY2009 as a "final edition" special feature. That should be a very nice car.

Generally, I go by KBB trade-in values. Typically,y whatever they list is about 10-20% higher than actual dealer offers. So, $21K is KBB "excellent" condition trade-in value. I would say this car is "good" at best given the Carfax. That puts it at $19.8 in KBB, so I'd set that as my absolute max. If you could get it for $18K, that would be where I'd look to be. But, I'd spend the money to have an MBZ dealer look it over.

To be honest no. I personally would never buy a car that had Structural damage... I have heard one too many horror stories. I would hesitate to buy one that has ever been in an accident period. But thats just me! ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
If you are interested in it IMHO definitely spend the extra $ to have it inspected. Actually IMHO don't buy it unless you get it checked out and get a warranty.

If you don't already have a relationship with a SA at that local MB dealer go start one. Bring that VIN and find out what, if anything, they did (they may have bought, inspected, and dumped!) If they didn't want to retail the car, that's a bad sign.

To me it would be about my own budget and how much I could buy a similar one for that has not been wrecked. I don't think I could ever see myself saying "I got this for $1,500 cheaper because it was in a wreck." It's not worth saving $1,500 to me to get a car I know was in a wreck bad enough to deploy the air bags, but I don't know any other details. $5,000 maybe, but not $1,500. But then if you add a warranty you would not otherwise addd then you are raising the price. I'm generally a no vote on warranties, so this would be a no brainer for me at anywhere near the price of an unwrecked one - get a different car.

I tried to look up the auction sale price for you but it was sold far too long ago. There are cached listings online for that car at least as far back as September 2012, and I have reason to believe as far back as 12/2011. THIS LISTING from October had it priced $10,000 higher, so God only knows how much room there is in the current price. I stand by what I said before: ask the dealer what they did and why they decided to wholesale it. I get my oil changes and occasional other work done at the dealership near me, which is enough to make me a "loyal customer" in their eyes. I always run the VIN of any car I'm considering buying from them and get service history etc.

The Carfax buyback guarantee only deals with title issues:
"CARFAX agrees to pay to the holder of a CARFAX® Vehicle History Report (the "Report") making a Claim (the "Claimant") the Claimant's purchase price of the vehicle to which the Report relates (the "Vehicle") up to 10% over the Kelley Blue Book value (see terms 8 and 9 for details) if the Report states that the Vehicle has a title history with no Branded Titles showing, but a Branded Title actually exists.
A "Branded Title" is a passenger motor vehicle ownership or registration document issued by any of the 50 states of the U.S. (or the District of Columbia) or a passenger motor vehicle registration document issued by any province of Canada which was issued with words or symbols signifying that the vehicle was: junked or salvaged; dismantled, rebuilt or reconstructed; flood damaged; fire damaged; hail damaged; bought back by its manufacturer ("Lemon Law" vehicle); odometer exceeds mechanical limits; odometer was not actual mileage; or which was issued with any other symbol or word signifying a similar Brand.
Specifically excluded from the definition of "Branded Title" for the purposes of this Guarantee are: titles originally issued without a Brand but later stamped with a Brand without being reissued; salvage titles issued due to theft; damage disclosure documents and Branded Titles issued in error and later corrected. "
As for getting the MBZ delaer to look at the car, you just need to get it from the seller for a day and take it to the delaer and ask for a pre-purchase inspection. Most dealers charge between $150-$250 for this.
Now, the fact that the MBZ delaer bought it at auction and now it's at a used car dealer could be a concern. If they bought it and did an inspection and found it didn't meet the requirements for CPO, they might have dumped it. Frame damage would disqualify it. Then again, they might have left it on the lot for several months and not been able to move it, then resold it. Dealers do that all the time. In fact, they will sell it at a loss to another dealer or an auction before selling it "at cost" to a customer. Why? Because selling it for a low price at retail lowers the book value which hurts future sales prices. Auction or wholesale sales only affect the wholesale prices, and lower wholesale prices are better for dealers.

Ive been thinking it over and i dont think im going to pull the trigger. I wanted a new daily driver and dont want to rely on the clk350 with multiple accidents. I found another clk but this one is a CLK55 2005 for $19,5000 with 66k miles on it with a clean car fax. But this one i will have as a second car. What do you think. Does anyone know if the 2005 clk55's have any know issues.
