2003 Mercedes CLK500 Coupe

Power Steering Problem

Guys I have searched and found some threads regarding power steering failure. Seems as though the pump is the first to go. In my case the pump is working properly. It is circulating fluid and there is pressure thru the hose. Without changing the whole rack has anyone ever just changed the valve? It has to be the valve or the rack at this point I would assume. Before sending to dealer any input is greatly appreciated.

The symptoms are no power steering. The pump is circulating fluid though and there is high pressure thru the hose to the pump so I assume it has to be the valve or the rack. But it just went no warning nothing. Just stopped working. It did happen while I was sliding on the snow. Not sure if that has anything to do with it

Steering feels kinda stiff and notice fluid is leaking slowly not sure where but I do refill it a bit from time to time, what might cause this?

You probably need to find the source of the leak. If it's the rack, then you can get rebuilt parts for much less than a new one. It may just be a hose, though.
