CLK-500 Xenon lights (2003)

(I suck at cars)

The left front Xenon light sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Occasionally it just takes a while to warm up.

My mechanic tells me both lights must be replaced at the same time. Am I being screwed?

Gracious Thanks

Xenon headlights gradually loose light output and also change color as they age, as such, when changing bulbs people usually recommend changing both at the same time, since if you only changed one the other one would be a different color due to the fact that it is old, it would also have lower light output. If your bulbs haven't been changed in several years, I'd go with the mechanic and replace both of them, but if they were both recently replaced then I would only replace the one bulb, which is probably faulty.
