TPMS sensor broke off in wheel

The other day when my wife came home, I heard a clanking sound from the rear. Upon jacking up the rear and checking, it appears the tire pressure sensor has broken loose in the left rear tire and is bouncing around inside the tire. I guess it will require replacing. My question is this: When I replace this sensor, does it require any type of syncing to the TPMS system in the car? Steve
My car is a 2009 CLK350 with AMG wheels.
