Steering Wheel Re-Wrap

Steering Wheel Re-Wrap
The steering wheel on one of my cars looks like total crap. The dealer wants $1,600 all-in for an OEM wood wheel install. I much rather go through a root canal than pay that.
I know that I'm supposed to look for a place to re-wrap my steering wheel but I haven't found any, and certainly any close to me. I'm not about to take out my steering wheel, undo the airbag and ship out my steering wheel and lose my car for who knows how long.
Wheelskins is an option but it looks like crap. It doesn't even remotely match MB, except for the all-black color. The photos make the steering wheel look ghetto. I was thinking of an alcantara wrap, but I can't find those either.
Somebody suggested shoe polish, and I guess that it'll be a disaster waiting to happen. The shoe dye would probably rub off all over my hands when driving and look like crap after a while.

Yeah, the Java steering wheel in our C240 looks really bad. It's not cracked or torn, but the leather has lost all of its dye and coating and has a lot of ground in dirt. I have read several post on The Internet on how to clean and fix it. I did follow one post for cleaning it using a mixture of rubbing alcohol, ammonia, vinegar and acetone. It did a good job, but unless I re-dye and reseal it, it keeps getting dirty again. I haven't bothered to investigate getting the right dyes and sealers. I think might check with my local dealer for the name of a good "leather guy" for some help.

Yeah, I keep searching eBay for a good Java C240 steering wheel, but no luck - they are either nearly as used as mine, or very expensive ($500+). Black is much easier to find.
