NO LONGER ACTIVE

It's either a bit of oil or rich exhaust. Mine does this if I start/stop/start on a cold engine. Officially, MBZ says anything less than 1 quart per 1000 miles is "normal" oil consumption I(yeah, I laughed at that, too).

Start stop start it is! I had previously found someone had parked too close to me, so I got in, moved my car a foot further away, and parked again. When I got the quick puff if was the next time.

Yeah, that seem fairly typical. It's a a bit of oil burning plus extrra water vapor. On a cold start, some oil gets past the rings and seals, but once the engine heats up, everything expands and closes. You might not notice this on a single cold start so much, but if you start and then stop without the engine warmed, it leaves a little extra oil in the chamber to give you that puff on the next start. Also, there will be extra water vapor in the engine that doesn't evaporate during that short run.

Tell you what. Start enjoying the car and stop worrying so much. Such is the life of owning a used car. Sometimes you're lucky, and sometimes you'er not. If you let the "what if's" consume you, you're going to start hating your car instead of loving it.

Have an independent mechanic go over it for peace of mind. Then you'll know up front.
