CLK500
CLK500 No potential

Hello Everybody. I am new to the Forum and new to owning a Merc. I am or was very excited about the prospect. I bought a w209 CLK500. Its beautiful. 20 inch multispoke alloys and deep dish at the rear. I have never seen a car with tyres this fat. 265's. When i get a car, I like to personalize it with kits, alloys, etc. I have a few things wrong with the car I need to fix first like Driver side seat belf presenters, seat controls, steering wheel adjuster, boot release. It seems everything down the driver side dont work. I just got the car back from a garage who initially thought the EML was on cos the car needed a new gearbox at &£700. Turned out a gearbox service sorted it out at £150. Pheww.

My boggle is this. I looked at kits available for the W209. Wide arch kits. There are not any I can find. Except the Black. But I will not be paying 2500 - 4000 for this. Does nyone know of any other sites i could find one? I have seen the universal wide arch kits but everyone who I ask about it say don't buy it cos it will not fit and wreck the car. So i guess i need one that was specifically designed for W209 clk.

Also performance mods. Is there a way of making the exhaust tone sound more .................... V8? more rough like C63 AMG. Maybe hollowing out cat and removing muffler without illuminating EML. Cams look like a good price to but im not to sure what they do to give an extra 30bhp.

Any help would be appreciated pals.

thanx

You're out of luck for the wide arch kits. All of us have been looking for a financially sensible solution. Every kit is over $4k.

Remove the muffler. You'll get that really nice raspy growl.

I have a full 3" exhaust with no muffler but with Primary and Secondary High Flow Cats.

Here's a start up vid:

if you want the original CLK63 exhaust system, you can have a look at my sound clip

Sound clip: http://huynh.be/IMG_0453.MOV (66,5MB)

This is the original clk63 (non bs) exhaust system. Cat back. Just some minor mods needed to the flange where it connects to the cat. My cas has the m113 engine.

I was also thinking to gut my cats to get some more power out of it, but i dont want to spoil the exhaust note since i think its perfect the way it is right now, and also, the engine lamp will mostly turn on becouse of the o2 probe after cat. I can gut the secondary cats without getting engine lamp since the o2 probes are on the primary cats. But again, dont want to spoil the sound.

I recently re-did my exhaust.... I have headers, so the sound will likely be different on a car with stock exhaust manifolds. I have magnaflow 200 CEL metallic CATS - vibrant resonators - magnaflow x-pipe - magnaflow dual in/out muffler - 2.5" tubing.
