Angry clk 270 cdi kick down problems

good morning

i have a clk 270 cdi 2003 encountering problems at kick down.

a brief history of the problem.
firstly,

i was driving on motorway doing around 60 mph and wanted to kick down and car switched off, steering became stiff and all lights flashed up pull in to the hard shoulder and switched car off and immediately started again which it did but with an engine management light on. car worked with out any problems since and after over night parking the engine management light has disappeared as well.
i have noticed that the above always happen at kick down.
i also get black cloud of smoke if i accelerate harshly (not kicking down).

secondly,

while driving at any speed when i lift my foot off the accelerator pedal i hear a crackling noise which is only hear when i lift my foot of the pedal.

the car gear changes are smooth and seems to give me around 500+ miles on a full tank of diesel.

please help as i wanted to go on road trip to Europe.

regards

i agree that the codes need to be read but any vague ideas?
i just don't want to be conned by any garage...
i also would like a reasonable priced garage to look into this for me.
i am in east London any information would be immensely appreciated.
