Tires Size vs Performance value

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...d-tires-tested

Although this article is old, not about the mercedes, (and a given) but nonetheless a good read for those who want are/have considered a tire upgrade.

Question to those "plus sized wheels": do you notice a difference in actual mpg?

seems like when I was on my stock 16s, the extra 2mpg per tank would really add up but those wheels though...

Another thing to consider is that wider tires have less straight-line grip. Based on the overall outer diameter of the tire and the weight of the vehicle, there will be a uniformly sized contact patch. As the tire gets wider, the width of the contact patch increases so the longitudinal (i.e. front to rear) size of the contact patch gets smaller. This is good cor cornering grip, but bad for straight-line traction.
