Mercedes Benz Navigation CD
Is anyone in North America still using the MCSII V8 Navigation Disk?
I noticed about two months ago my OEM in dash GPS Navigation (Sat-Nav for your Brits) stopped working. I cleaned the disk and also used a optical disk cleaner. However no matter what it simply would not work. After paying $150 for the disk I expected it to still work even if it was old. I searched online and found an updated disk was released.
I found as soon as I inserted the MCSII v9 disk in the DVD drive it worked perfectly. Has anyone else noticed/experienced this?
My question is "Is it possible that Navteq/MB/Alpine installed an expiration kill in the disk in order to force us to upgrade?"

There is no expiration on the disk. The only thing you can't do is put a earlier version on than what's on it.

Ok, then exactly what I figured there seems to be an expiration. my version 8 disk stopped working. I tried my disk as well as a duplicate disk both wouldn't work. I purchased a version 9 online and immediately it started working again.

Well its not so much the expiration you can still sell the V8 disk it will work on something lower than V8 if someone wanted to upgrade to it. It's more of a software thing dunno if the firmware is upgraded.
