Android Tablet in dash
Hi guys, so for fun i be working on this nexus 7 2013 dash kit for our face lift clk. I am considering installing it when i finish it but it's going to require a sound processor which I have no funds for. I have no prior experience with fiberglass or body filler, so I'm pretty happy with how it's looking so far.

Looks good. I considered doings something similar but with all sorts of high end headunits running android I didn't consider it was worth the effort. Hope it turns out great!

Mega, I was looking at many of the high end android Head units but that all are crap in one way or another.
1)sony 701hd. It has one of the best screens in the market but lacks compability with my note 3 (would need to root but still lacks functionality). Sony also has dreadful product support.
2) alpine ICS-x7hd. Good unit, lack compability ugly display. Same problems
3)pioneer app radio, sucks with out root and the AR liberator app.
Running a Nexus 7 will give me full digital out to a processor which I can connect to my amps.
This was all experimental for me. I follow sound Man ca on YouTube they are a car audio shop that stayed the tablet in car thing., but they want 1200 to do a dash kit which is crazy!!!!
I took a stab at it and ended up cutting up the dash kit 2 times to re do it. It looks smoother now but I'm not going to paint it, I will just wrap it in CF. Will post more pictures today. Again, it's my first time fabricating anything

There were other issues as well with no hardware buttons, no way to have the unit turn on/off with the car, no car mode (larger interface buttons etc). GPS signal will also be problematic unless you find a way to run an external antenna.
Either way, document everything, just in case other people might want to do the mod in the future

I forgot to me the the dnn990hd. It's the best unit out at the moment, but if you are paying over a grand for a headunit why is the screen so ****ty? They could have used a similar screen to the Sony 701hd unit. I was also over at the Kenwood forums and there were many reported issues with the hu(refurbished units can be found for 700 on ebay).
As for the gos function, I will be tethering my note 3 to the tab. And if I like it I will buy the lte variety
Again this is all experimental. And I will document everything if anyone ever wants to pick up where I leave off.

So the plan:
1. Root the nexus 7 2013 edition and install cyangenmod cm10.2, this gives support for USB audio. (You can use the original nexus and use timur's rom for better connectivity, I used the 2nd nexus because of the hd screen)
2. Connect the nexus to the behringer uca202 via OTG cabel.
3. Connect the behringer uca202 to a bit one digital processor via optical out cabel.
4. Connect amps and speakers of your choice

The dash kit looks like it's coming along great.
How are you going to handle sound output? The Nexus outputs stereo and if you're gonna throw a digital processor in there that can handle a center/tweeters/sub you're looking at a higher price in parts alone than an android headunit?

Completely agree that the the dnn990hd is a great unit, if not the best unit on the market, But The nexus cost me 100 bucks brand new
and that's for the 2nd gen.
As for the sound, the nexus puts out a full digital signal in USB mode.
the behringer uca202 has optical audio out. So when you connect it to the nexus with an OTG cable and then to the audison bit 10 D with a optical cable you have a full digital signal.
There are ways to add backup and front cameras along with a full ODBII monitor with the torque app.
Again, it is more work than buying a Kenwood dnn990hd, but it's something that I have been wanting to do.
Most likely complete it by the summer Because, I just quit my job to finish college and funds will be limited. This will also give me time to find a nice used bit 10.
Just wanted to give people some ideas, same can be done with an ipad

Actually, I just remembered you can keep all stock HK components with the help of an Opti-1. It converts an RCA signal to fit the M.O.S.T system. It's about a $500 little box. Well worth it to make everything more simple.

edit: does not mention the clk but might be worthwhile to ask.

Good work on the fiberglass mount.
I have been pondering doing the same thing, but I didnt want to root my tablet, so I am using a HDMI adapter from the flexport on the gen2 Nexus7. I was then planning on running that into a device that extracts digital audio from the hdmi stream. Likewise, I have been eyeing a bit 1 or bit 10D.
