Question Trunk Will Not Lock

The issue I am having with the trunk is that after I lock the car with the remote I can open the trunk manually. This sets off the anti theft system. The lights start flashing etc... The trunk opens fine with the remote when the vehicle is unlocked. The trunk closes easily when open. I personally eye balled every fuse in the 3 locations. All the fuses were present and not one fuse was blown.

I think I found the problem. Something must of fallen out while driving. Please look at the photo. Can someone please help me identify the missing part? Something goes into that hole. Thanks

That is where the lock tumbler assembly used to be for your metal emergency key. You can use that key to unlock your trunk in the event of dead battery. I have a feeling somebody "punched" your lock and got into your trunk. Are you missing anything?

Nothing missing at all but it is always empty anyway. My battery is in the engine compartment. Also the trunk lid does not have any place to insert a key for opening. So the emergency key could be used to gain entrance into the car. Nothing seems out of the ordinary. It is always parked in the garage.

You will have to get a replacement key barrel / tumbler, from MB. Give them your Vin & they will order it in for you. Never seen that before, except when someone [low-life thief], has used a screwdriver to gain access.

So does this mean the tumbler in the door handle and glove box will have to be changed also?

I just returned from the MB Dealer. They quoted me $700 for the tumbler and latch assembly because they come as one piece. The price includes labor also. What a rip off. I guess that won't be fixed any time soon.
