05 320CLK - Roof almost finishes
It's going to be a warm day here in NNJ so decided to put the roof down & air out the car. The roof has been up all winter.
Bad idea.
Got the std. message about putting the trunk bar down. Done. The roof went down fine, and the metal covering hatch was inches from slipping into the body and locking when it just stopped. It beeps saying roof opening then roof visit dealer. With the console switch it wont go up or down.
Next steps?

Called a local MB repair shop - they didn't have a Star Unit so I didn't bother.
But a little local hole-in-the-wall shop did have it.
The unit said several sensors were out-of-whack. He reset the codes. The roof wouldn't budge. We man-handled the roof up & locked it up. The roof was then able to finish the cycle. Going down was fine with the roof tucking nicely away and the rear shelf coming down to seal & there was a loud CLUNK where it should have been a smooth Lock down sound when the rear locks into place. It went back up fine. The star unit had one or more sensors in "impossble" positions. Down one more time & the clunk was still there. The DIAG unit said one of the Sensors was in an IMPOSSIBLE position. We put the roof up and will chase the issue another day.
I'm guessing a clamp isn't opening properly for the lock-down. Probably some microswitch is futzed.

The tonneau cover (also known as case cover or storage compartment cover) "lands" on two brackets inside the storage compartment when it closes. On the left side, there are two switches in the same bracket. They get dislodged easily. Check if they are both in position, and check if the plastic sliding switch assembly on the tonneau cylinder is working properly. They could contradict each other and create an "illogical" readout if for example the rear switch in the bracket says the cover is in position, but the sliding switch on the cylinder indicates that the cylinder is extended.
Please let us know what you find!
