2006 Mercedes CLK 350
Transmission selector/shifter cover

2006 CLK 350. Trim piece around shifter selector on auto trans is loose and flops around while changing from P to D, R etc. Seems like plastic clip is broken that holds it in place.
Dealer says price for the "chrome" (plastic) part is $225.60.

Any ideas how to get around $225 for a thin piece of plastic?

Thanks to all

Find a good plastic welder to repair it.

I put double sided tape beneath the flange where you can't see it. Seems to hold so far.

I fixed mine by using some screws from the underside. It means I can't remove the shift boot without removing the center xonsole wood panel, but so be it:

i think the shift boots shrink

and cause the pieces to move around

here is a far less invasive approach

try a little plastic epoxy
buildup on the ends of the tabs

Mine failed because the tabs themselves broke. The plastic tabs are just a poor design. They don't have enough elasticity to survive more than a few R&Rs.
