ACCELERATOR PROBLEM

I HAVE AN '01 CLK320 THAT IS HAVING AN INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD THE ESP LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE NO MATTER WHAT I DO WITH THE GAS PEDAL. AS SOON AS I TURN OFF THE CAR AND STARTED IT BACK THEN THE CAR WILL WORK FINE. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS ONCE A WEEK BUT THERE ARE DAYS THAT IT HAPPENS TWICE OR MORE.I AM JUST WONDERING WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. A FRIEND TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE TPS/ ACCELERATOR POSITON SENSOR AND I DID BUT IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY INPUT REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

(all in lower case so it doesn't look like i am yelling back)

does the engine rev and you don't move or will the engine not respond?

thanks for responding Patton001. the answer to your question, no the engine doesn't rev up. rpm stays at idle even if i press on the gas pedal.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
This is most likely a bad wheel speed sensor. To know for sure, you need to get a proper diagnosis. A generic ODBII code reader won't do it - you need SDS or a high-end scanner that can read the ABD/ESP system.
