Flushing brake fluid?

I have manually bled brakes on numerous cars over the years, and when you open the bleeder valve at any wheel the brake pedal can be easily pressed to the floor. But in trying to flush the fluid on this car, the fronts were OK, although slightly firmer than what I'm used to, but you need Hercules legs to press the pedal down when the rear valves were wide open. Felt like a was trying to push fluid through a tiny pin hole. Made no difference how wide open the valve was. What is going on there? Is there some sort of proportioning valve that restricts flow?

I've replaced mine using a one-man vacuum operated bleeder and it was very labor intensive - a lot of pumping. I don't think there are any valves causing this. WIS instructions don't mention anything like that. The official process uses a system that attaches to the reservoir and pressurizes it with a supply of fresh fluid. I can't imagine that it provides more pressure than the brake pedal.

Hey Yidney,


I have been using EZ-Bleed for years. It uses the spare tire pressure and a brake fluid plastic bottle to pressurize and force spent fluid out the bleed fitting.


I now use a pancake air compressor to supply the 17psi. Works great. Just make sure you do not run out of fluid. Air may tough to remove if it gets into the master cylinder and lines.
