Angry No Audio In 2008 CLK350!

Hi All,

My first post and am new to this forum.

I recently bought this car from an MB dealer in Florida. It had all I wanted minus iPhone interface and blue tooth. I searched this forum and other things and found that the mCar interface was the best...so I bought it.

I went to install it through the removal of the CD changer in the glove box. The instructions, however, stated to remove the Head Unit (HU) as well.

I first began to remove the HU without actually removing the wire harnesses from it. I could basically see the block of harnesses and three antennas. I then began to remove the CD changer.

After removal of the changer I removed the OEM plug adapter from the FO harness and replaced it with the mCar adapter. I spliced the OEM power supply and ground to fit the mCar unit. (Red/Blue Battery, brown ground).

Alas, nada! I emailed the mCar folks from their website and surprisingly got a call a few minutes later...on a Saturday. They were helpful but could not explain why I had the following problems:

- No Audio from the sound system.
- Lost Sirius (MOST doesn't recognize that it's there.

And after reinstalling the CD changer, the MOST doesn't recognize it.

I know there is power to the Unit (the changer) and that the input FO line is working (red light goes on and off).

I tried a multitude of things like opening and closing the car door (saw that on You Tube) to regain audio. I Reset the MOST (or COMAND) system using the front panel controls. I also disconnected the battery for over ten seconds.

As of this morning, the COMAND system recognizes the NAVI, AM/FM, iPod interface, singe CD player). There is no Audio whatsoever nor does it recognize the CDC (CD Changer).

I know it's something silly but beyond me right now so I need some help that will hopefully prevent me from taking it to the shop.

Help?

And thanks in advance!!

Rich

The fiber optic loop is incomplete. Also, as i recall, the fiber connector for the CDC does not mate with the mCar unit, so you have to snap them out of that connector and snap them into the mCar connector. They do have a polarity, so maybe these leads need to be reversed.

Thanks Rodney. I did change the connector but not polarities (in/out data). What concerns me most is when I reinstalled the CDC, it wasn't recognized and no audio.

Cheers!

OK, a few things. First, and easiest, would be to swap the fiber leads in the connector just in case you have their polarity reversed. If that doesn't do it, then I;d pull the HU out and check two things - one, make sure the fiber leads are securely connected to the back of it, and two, make sure you didn't pinch or kink a fiber lead when you removed the HU.

Thanks Rodney, I'll give that a go this week.

LOL! Glad it was an easy fix. And that's a good lesson - always check the simplest things first.
