How does one remove and replace the rear spoiler ?
Hi. Is it really just taped on? I want to remove it, paint it black, and put it back. Is it just heat it up a bit, pry it off, remove old tape, use new tape. if so, what is the right tape to use? Thanks.

Correct - but the tape they use at the factory is pretty strong stuff. I think "flossing" it off is the best approach - you use floss or a similar cord to run between the spoiler and the trunk to saw through the adhesive.

You will need thick floss or you can use fishing line. A wooden pencil, candy apple stick, or a piece of hard rubber or plastic about that size will be handy to put between the spoiler and trunk as you work your way from one end to the other. This keeps pressure on the spoiler tape and makes it easier to cut through the heated tape.
If you're going to paint and re-install, why not just paint it without removing it from the car?

All of above you can also use a heat gun to slightly heat it up as you go. Its a tedious task my thumb was wore out rubbing the left over tape off.

The Goo-Off or Goo-Gone gels work really well in easing the removal of the residual tape adhesive. Then a good wipe down with alcohol, a mild solution of dish washing liquid, and then plain water. When you see it without the diffuser and all cleaned up, you'll be tempted to leave it without a spoiler....
