MB Motor Oil

I have been buying Mobile One 0w40 European Formula from the dealership (Toronto) for a long time. I can get a better price from the dealership than the local auto shops.

I went today and apparently, they now have MB branded engine oil and no more Mobile One. The bottle has MB logo and a label 229.5.

I have 4 Mobile One 0w40 at home so I bought 4L of the MB oil. I came home and found this MB oil is 5w40! I called the dealership and they told me they now carry only one kind of engine oil, 5w40.

Anyone here is aware of this? Who makes this MB branded engine oil?

More importantly, can I mix 4L of Mobile One 0w40 with 4L of MB oil 5w40 for my next oil change?

You can safely mix the oil. You'll end up with "2.5w40". As long as its 229.5 spec, you're fine. But as far as viscosity, you do need to make sure you use what is appropriate for your geographic temperature range. 0W40 is "preferred" as it has the widest viscosity range and covers the most ranges of temperatures around the world. 5w40 is good for -30F to over 100F. I know it gets cold in Toronto, but I think 5w40 is probably OK.

OK, thanks. What is the temperature range of 0w40?

I think I will stick to 0w40 for now. The only other place I buy Mobile One locally is Canadian Tire where they sell 0w40 and 5w40 for the same price.

0w40 is rated simply for "below -30F and above 100F".
