I would like to purchase another key fob for my 08 CLK 550. Dealer quoted me $345, which is on-par with the $400 I paid for my Volvo key unit. The question is; with the available 'used' units on e-bay, can I purchase a unit, and then have the dealer program to my vehicle? Or am I simply ahead by buying a new unit form the dealer? No idea what a dealer charges to program the unit.

No, you cannot purchase a key and have it re-programmed. MBZ's key system is the most sophisticated out there and only the factory can create a key that will work with your car.
