CLK W209 ESP Unavailable/Battery

Ive joined here hoping someone can help me on my problem. I have a 2004 CLK200 Kompressor W209 (facelifted interior). It has done around 59,000 miles and serviced regularly by either MB or an MB Specialist. The last couple of months i've had the following problem:

Usually on the first start of the day i'll turn the key, the car will start and then immediately its as though the power to the electrics is cut. The seatbelt extenders stop midway, the headlights go off, the interior light (if door is open) goes off and then it immediately comes back on. The whole thing lasts about 1-2 secs if that. Then my ESP light comes on and it says 'ESP Unavailable" on the dash, this is followed by a red battery warning light. The ESP light goes off, and the battery light stays until i restart the car. This is no problems driving or anything after this. Recently however the problem will happen again a few secs after starting and once i start driving but its rare. The ESP works fine throughout the whole thing. I intially thought it may be my battery has gotten old, so i had it replaced with a brand new one genuine MB. However, this hasn't solved the problem. I've even taken the battery for a run which didn't make much of a difference. When i go to a mechanic they don't know what the problem is as they say no warning lights are coming on diagnostics. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Another problem i have is occasionally I would be driving and all of a sudden i have a massive loss in power. If i accelerate it takes some time for the revs to build up and i have to park up, turn off the car wait a couple of minutes and restart and its fine again. This problem happened before the battery but I'm unsure if its all related? No warning lights come on with this one.

Any advice would be appreciated.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
This definitely sounds like a voltage problem. Have you had the alternator tested?

voltage regulator to be exact. I had the same problem in my old C class. cheap part, but its pretty hard to get the alternator out to change it.(really confined space)
