On the ForMyMercedes site link they say "Ash Wood Illustrated" with a part number of 209 2017. They also have a "Burl Wood" with a part number of 209 2015. My 209 is "Burl Walnut Wood and I'm wondering if their "Burl Wood" is the same as my Burl Walnut Wood. Cliffybabe - what style is your wood?

opusnron,

I order mine from formymercedes.com and just received it. I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I have the cahrcoal interior with the burl walnut trim too. Will post pics as soon as I can.

cliffybabe,

I talked with the guy when I ordered mine and he said he could match it. I sent him a pic of my trim and he said no problem but it would take him a week to get it.

Here's a pic of my interior as it is right now.

I just recieved mine on friday I will try to install it tonight and post pics.

My interior is the same color as SJCLK, cliffybabe's appears lighter in color. Will be waiting for SJCLK's pics and also how it was to install. I'm wondering if it's a "stick-on" does it stick out!

Well I finally completed the install of the wood trim today and here are the results...

I think it looks pretty good. It was very easy to install but it took some time. I will post with a more detail explanation shortly.

yes, that's very nice, but what about the Avantgarde owners any idea what part number it is?

BTW, was that an aftermarket part?

Nice stereo there too, was that a standard one? wished mine were like that

Cheers,
Ho

opusnron here is what's involved in doing the wood trim.

1. I removed the the handle from the glovebox door. Its attached with four screws from the back. You'll need a Tork type screwdriver to remove the screws.

2. I seperated the leather covered plasitc insert from the metal handle frame. I started at one end and pried with my fingers but that didn't work to good so I used a small jewelers screwdriver. I gently pried between the plastic insert and the handle until the plactic popped up and then worked my way down the length of the handle.

3. After I had removed the insert I had to clean the residue of the glue they use off the handle. I used some stuff called Goof Off to do this. After that I wiped the handle down with glass cleaner and a dry cloth,

4. Next I installed the wood trim insert which is a wood veneer on a plastic backing. It comes with a double sticky adhesive strip on the back. I removed that paper on the adhesive, aligned the piece on the metal handle and pressed it on. Once you press it down you won't have much room for corrections so you have to make sure thats how you want it. Altough it does come with a tube of glue from the manufacturer but takes 3hrs to set. After I had the wood insert in place I used some rubber bands and wrapped them around the ends and the middle of the handle for about an hour.

5. Lastly I installed the handle back on the glovebox door.

It very simple and I could have had it done that first night except I did not have anything that was working to remove the glue residue when I removed the black insert. Went to Homey depot the next day and got the goof off.

kaiju,

Sorry I don't know of a place to get the avantgrade trim piece. Here in the states they don't offeer the avantgarde trim package so I'm not sure what it even looks like. If you could post a pic that be great.

The stereo is the stock unit.

cliffybabe,

You might try here for the part. It will probably easier for you shipping wise since your in the UK.

If anyone has anymore questions just let me know and I'll try to answer them.

So, if I understand you correctly, you removed what is currently on the handle and replaced it with the wood rather than sticking the wood directly on top of what is currently there and you didn't use the supplied glue.

These are the same trim we have on the Avantgarde, pic is an SL, that's the best shot I could find.

opusnron,

Yes that is correct. you remove the old insert and install the wood insert. It is not a stick on piece that is applied on top of what is already there. The wood insert had the double sticky tape but also include a tube of glue.

kaiju,

I don't see a picture. Please post it again.

sirees01,

Its a very good match to the Mercedes factory trim

I ordered the insert from formymercedes, should be in next week. It costs the same as a new (regular) handle from Mercedes ($60) Asked for the cost of the original in case I screw up the install since I'm not known as "Mr Mechanic"
