Has anyone changed their OEM navigation/radio to aftermarket?
I have a 2007 CLK550. I have the OEM navigation (Harmon Kardon) but don't like the interface to the radio. I am considering an aftermarket system. The features I like from the OEM unit, is the directions being displayed in the dash and the radio volume lowered when directions are announced.
Has anyone changed their OEM navigation/radio to aftermarket?
If so, did you receive an error in your dash and lose additional features?

There are many many many posts about this all around the forum in detail, you will be loosing you HK system and will need to reroute speaker wires and you'll loose all steering wheel controls and dash readouts. There are units that works with Mercedes's systems (but not the HK system), they are chinese brands and really the UI is much worse in them then the one your using.

You can retain steering wheel controls with an adapter, but I am not aware of any that will give you info on the MFD (though they may exist). Now that I have the mCar module in mine that gives me on-screen iPod controls and Bluetooth hands-free (and streaming, but I don't use that), I actually like using the stock system. If I were to look for a replacement, I'd probably go with one of the new Android-based units that can run apps. Imagine have the Waze app on the in-dash NAV screen. That would really be useful.
