Question Weird Shiny Spot On Speedometer Cover ?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

There is a weird shiny spot at the top of the cover for my speedometer panel.

I swear it wasn't always there, and I swear it is spreading.

I just noticed it a couple months ago, and at first I thought it was just a light reflection, but it seems to be there regardless of the type of lighting - night/day/sun/shade etc.

Should I be concerned that it is going to spread over the whole area?

@Ramjet5 I know - it was a long hot summer here in south Louisiana/Texas.

I was wondering actually if it could be caused from heat - the black interior is like an oven in summer unfortunately.

Looks like what you are seeing is light being refracted in tiny cracks in the plastic. Cant tell if the cracks are deep, or just crazing in the surface. Either way, there is really nothing you can do about it.

Can you fell any deformation, as from being scratched, when you rub a finger across it?

Have you tried cleaning it?
You can try a clear plastics cleaner (I use Meguiars). I've found it works really well with a bit of pressure. I use a rubber sanding block covered with a microfiber towel. Using the edge of the covered block, I dampen the towel at the edge and rub with pressure back and forth. Then wipe with a dry portion of the towel.

I think this stuff actually removes and/or alters the plastic surface.

I have the same thing on mine in the same exact spot but its barely noticeable, I'm pretty sure the only reason i see it is because i'm **** about the speedometer cover getting scratched
