replacing center console
The color is rubbing off of the center console (see picture) so I want to replace it. I might just try to find one at a dismantler yard. How difficult it it to R&R this? Do I have to remove the entire console or can I do just the box part?
Thanks for any input.

I have been trying to avoid asking such a stupid question. I have been searching parts sites and dealer sites. Nobody shows that type of armrest. they just have the big padded kind. I have yet to go to the dealership, hate them, but it might be a last resort unless someone has any other thoughts on finding that part.
The last time I called Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach about a part, they had it in stock so I asked for the part number so I wouldn't be starting from scratch when I got there. Their response? "We don't give out part numbers"! Lord they **** me off!

My understanding, based on Rodney saying so three or four times, is that that part cannot be purchased separately. The slider door can be, but that part is part of the center console. You talked about getting one from a junkyard, which is probably why Rodney did not mention it.

I'm sure Rodney will come on and clarify, but I have interpreted his prior comments that even though that part on yours can be removed - I've removed mine - it cannot be purchased separately. I always thought he meant it needed to be bought with whole console piece -even more than part 90. Part of what shows as part 90 can be bought separately - the cup holder and the sliding door. If part 90 can be bought as it looks in the picture it would be pricey because just the slider is about $220 at a dealer.

In that diagram, part #90 in the top left corner is the revised "rollerblind" center console. The cupholder for it a separate part (#95 on the diagram). Unfortunately, I can't get into EPC right now (Vmare issues after upgrading to windows 10) or I'd verify the part number. As Yidney said, I assumed you were looking for a used part. A new one is around $600, IIRC.

2006 CLK350 Cabriolet (A209)
Hi, I have the exact same console issue with another 2006 CLK350 only mine is the stone colored interior. Could someone please tell me how to remove that piece? I have checked ebay and local used part stores but no luck so far finding one here in Dallas. I am considering getting it recovered if possible at an upholstery shop if I can remove it. Thanks for any help in advance!

I've had mine off, but it was long enough ago that I don't recall exactly. Rodney said above it just clips on - maybe it does and I was removing the part beneath it. But what I recall was removing the cup holder - one screw under the rubber. Then there are some screws you can access from on top front and rear - this is what I have trouble remembering. Then I could lift the whole assembly up a ways but could not figure out how to disconnect the wiring harness to get it free, so I had to use a short torx to remove 6 small torx screws underneath the top edge - three on each side. That took longest because it was awkward. But again, I may have simply unclipped that top part and Rodney can confirm if the whole thing can be accomplished with one yank. But either way, it does come off.

Thanks for that info. I have located the screw under the cup holder but have not tried removing it yet. I have given that trim piece a pretty good tug and it has not budged so maybe it is held on by screws. Rodney posted some pics a few years ago showing he had that entire piece lifted up, the top and the box underneath, but I could not see from the angle of the pics exactly how that top trim piece attaches. I bought this car new and it only has 46K miles and I do intend on keeping it, but am not impressed by some of the quality issues, this console degrading being one of them. I have owned several MB's over the years and have never had a center console wear away. The car gets detailed at the dealership every few months and they attempted to repair the spot with some type of filler which just made it worse. Hoping to get the piece off and have it recovered by an upholstery shop. Any info on how to remove it would be appreciated. Thanks again. Mike.

See my post 11 above. It does not pop off. You have to get the assembly it is connected to up a bit by removing screws - a couple of which you will see when the cupholder comes out. Once up a bit, you will see six torx screws on the bottom side of the part you are trying to remove.
