Maintenance Expertise Needed Please
Hi, i have a 2009 CLK350 with 47,000 miles. My windshield washer fluid sprung a leak and now I have to have it completely replaced, even though the pump still works, as in squirts fluid onto the window.
Anywho, the following recommendations were made and I'm unsure if they are all necessary or if the estimate is reasonable.
Please let me know your impressions of the following:
Service B (indictor says 1900 miles until it is due) ....... $470.32
Transmission service ...............................................$51 0.71
Brake fluid replace .................................................. $170.18
Air Filter Element replace .........................................$100.85
Front Brake Discs and Pads (pads at 4mm), incl. sensor $717.49
Rear Brake Discs and Pads (pads at 4mm), incl. sensor .$489.68
Spark plugs replace .................................................$ 476.55
Windshield washer pump and grommet .......................$250.74
Snow tires mount and balance ...................................$120.00
I have to have the last two items done. What is the priority of the others in your opinion? Should I do it all or some? Are these rates reasonable?
thank you for your response

That spark plug price is utterly ridiculous as the plugs on that engine are very easy to replace, not to mention that they are probably being replaced prematurely.
Sometimes dealers do specials on the transmission fluid service, I would look into that before paying the price you have here.

From that list - i think you could benefit from a transmission service and brake fluid change most, that is if you haven't done it yet. Service is B is basically an oil change with a bunch of inspections that will tell you to do the same stuff you mentioned above. Air filters are very inexpensive, definitely a DIY. You should have someone else check your spark plugs/Brake pads/Rotors and change them as needed. Avoid the stealership!

The A and B services at the dealer are always overprices. The A service is an oil change with a few inspections. The B service is that plus a few additional inspections, and is supposed to cover a few extra parts like wiper blades and air filters, but most dealers charge extra for that. Basically, this is two hours of work at best and maybe $150 in parts (at dealer prices).
This should be more like $400, and include a torque converter drain. If they say they don;t train the torque converter, or that your has no drain, then it should be closer toe $275 (less fluid and less labor).
This may be the most reasonably priced item on the list.
15 minutes of work and $26 for the Mann filters - easy DIY if you can use a Torx screwdriver.
Genuine MBZ pads (all four wheels) are about $170 + $15 for the two sensors. It should take no more than two hours for a trained tech to do this. These prices are highway robbery.
More robbery. The most expensive plugs are about $12 each. If it takes an hour, then the tech is taking too long.
This one takes the cake! The pump and grommet are under $25. If this takes a tech more than 30 minutes, then he needs to be fired.
That actually sounds reasonable - $30 er tire for M+B. Personally, if I had deal with snow tires, I'd buy a set of cheap rims and keep them mounted so I could just swap them myself.

That's about $3,200 for one round of routine maintenance. I have not put that much into my car in the nearly 5 years I've owed it - including tires.

The stealership might as well come to your house in daylight, jump in through a window, rob everything including the furniture, the furnace, the hardwood, the door handles and make sure to empty your fridge as well and then leave.
