2007 CLK 350 Cab
Water in boot

I have a 2007 clk350 cab recently bought.
It was raining pretty hard a few days ago here in New York and that night the car had a foul odor. So yesterday I opened the trunk and under the spare I found water. At first it thought it was oil cause of the color but after touching it, it was definitely water. Any idea how it got there, I also put my finger in the hole (you will see the hole in the picture and there was water in their also) not sure where that hole needs a cover or not.

Did you take all the trunk liners off to look for the leak or for some other reason? First thin is to inspect the trunk seal and the seal around the bay the top drops into. Operate the top far enough that the back panel lifts and inspect the seal. Then make sure it all look good around the rear window. Without looking, I'm not 100% sure about an drains back there that can be plugged. But I don't think there are any. Water that falls in the crack around the trunk runs out by the taillights. I think water around that top panel goes the same place.

I used my garden hose and saw the water is coming in from the side not from the trunk but from the part the lifts for the top to go into the trunk.

I noticed there was a gap from the pet that lifts, I attached a picture of both sides of the car the one with the gap is the side that it's leaking. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

It looks like the soft top cover is not closing completely. Check to make sure there is no debris causing this. Also, check its hinges - there are plastic arms in the middle of them that can break and cause them to bind. If that's the case, just break these plastic arms off completely - they are only there ot lock to lid in the upright position when serving the hydraulics.

Your "gap" "no gap" is not the issue - the difference between the two sides on my car is much bigger than yours , and that point is not waterproof anyway.

Regardless of the difference in those gaps, it looks to me like the soft top cover is not closed properly. It looks misaligned, and that means it may not be sitting tightly on it seal, thus letting water into the trunk.

can someone take a picture of theirs and let me see... Was looking today for any way to maybe make some adjustments but didn't have any success. Could it be that the deal is no good? I don't see anything that would make me think that I need a new seal.

I didn't see what Rodney was talking about at first, but now I do. See that tiny chrome strip around that that trim belt in your photos. The chrome on the panel that lifts looks higher than the chrome on the trim on the rear quarter. If that panel is closed all the way they ought to pretty much line up. Post those same pictures, but lower your caner so you are shooting at your "gap" area straight on from the side.

I will get the pictures tomorrow. Today what I did was take the washers out behind the part that locks it into place so it can hoping it would drop alittle lower. But it seemed like there was still water coming in.

Removing parts is not the way to go. Not sure what you removed, but put it back. If it's not actually closing all the way, then you have some other issue. Did you look at the issue Rodney raised? There is a thread on here somewhere showing what he's talking about.

While you are taking pics, take a nice clear one of each hinge so we can see the front of them. Then we can see if the what Rodney is talking about is broken.
