I searched under the carpet to find the Sirius module and it looks like my car didn't come with it. Is it a lot of work to add Sirius to my car. I tried searching the forms and can't find much details on adding the Sirius module.
If it says acquiring signal, then you have a Sirius tuner installed, so it's either a bad one, or an antenna problem.
On the cabriolet, the tuner module is in the trunk, under the carpeted section between the back seat and the spare tire well. When you remove that carpet, you will find several electronic units. The Sirius tuner will be the one on the front right corner. I believe it's a black plastic housing - item #1 in this picture:
The antenna is in the trunk lid. Remove the carpet on it and it should be in the center - item #2 in this picture (note that item #3, which looks very similar, is the GPS/Teleaid/Phone antenna):
Thanks for that reply! I was looking in the wrong spot for it. So yesterday I installed the navigation now when I press SAT it says call 888-539-7474 and on the cluster it says NO SAT.
I'll attach a picture also. Last time I tried calling Sirius they told me that If everything is connected I should receive the preview channel.
Yes, Sirius is compressed. Some channels are worse than others. Most of the music channels are OK, but the talk and sports broadcasts are more compressed.
I have had a Sirius subscription for about 3 years. There are several channels that I am not able to receive. I have always thought this was due to the age of the Sirius tuner. This year Sirius has Christmas music on channels 13 and 18. When it try to tune to these channels it says invalid channel, yet the display says I can get channels up to 223. Is anyone else able to pick up 13 and 18? If these channels were playing Christmas music the last couple of years then they worked fine.
It's interesting that you mention that. My CLK550 has a Sirius tuner with an old "lifetime" subscription, activated by the original owner. I don't get channels 11-18, either. I've never bothered to call, since the subscription is not in my name and I figure they'd kill it. I do get channel updates periodically, so I think it may be a limitation of the tuner itself.
Rodney,
Thanks. I was afraid of that. My wife and I have identical subscriptions and she drives a 2010 Enclave and gets a bunch of channels. They change periodically with the updates. I get the update signals, but do not see channel updates or new channels. I figured it may be a limitation of the tuner and I assume there is no way to upgrade the tuner?
I have two very old portable "Sportster" radios subscribed and a Pioneer AVIC in the C240 with a subscription and all of those get these channels. I am guessing it's just a limitation of the MBZ module. ]Since you have an active, paid subscription, I'd suggest calling SXM and question them about it. I don't believe there is an updated tuner, but if there is, you'd have to buy it. I'd be interested to know what you find out.
I spent about an hour on the phone with XM/Sirius yesterday. They told me that the specific model tuner in the CLK550 does not pick up "premium stations", which evidently 13 and 18 are. The age of the tuner doesn't matter, it is the model. They were not sure about replacing the tuner, they said I would either need to go to a stereo shop or dealer. As a work around, they gave me a free internet subscription, so I can stream the stations from my phone thru the Bluetooth system. Not ideal, but I'll take the free subscription. I have unlimited data on my phone, so it isn't a problem. I am not sure you can even replace just the factory installed Sirius tuner anyway. I thought you would need to replace the entire sound system. I don't think I want to invest a ton of money just to get a few extra stations.
The Sirius tuner is a separate, individually-replaceable part, but I doubt a new one would do any good. I'm just glad that my subscription is "Free". Many original purchasers took advantage of the "lifetime" subscription. MBZ gave them one year free, and Sirius would apply the value of that year to the cost of the lifetime, so for less than $300, you got lifetime.
