Scanner

I am thinking to get a scanner and looking for suggestions. My ride is a 2004 w209, is the interface a DB25 or USB?

On one hand, their websites (Innova, Carsoft) say they all work with all post 1996 models. On the other hand, I read here that some codes can be read only by MB Star scanners.

Also, can these non-MB scanners reset any code triggered?

A generic code reader is only going to do so much, you get what you pay for, A real scanner like an independent shop has will read the codes and reset almost anything star can do. But they cost thousands and not worth it for home use.
I haven't come across anything i cant do with my snap-on on my benz. But it will not read certain other features on other manufacturers ive tried.
I've had people come in my shop with codes they wrote down they got off their reader or what auto zone pulled with their generice, when i check it we get different information on ours.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Being a MY2004 "pre-facelift" car, Carsoft 7.4 will work. It can read and reset codes from all systems. You can usually pick it up for around $100.

I checked and it looks like this unit is made specifically for MB and Sprinter. Does this mean that it would not work for a Toyota, Honda, etc? I thought OBD2 codes are standardized.

It does work for the standard OBD2 codes for all cars but will only read and reset the proprietary MBZ codes.
