2004 clk 500 a clicking noise coming from the vent that goes to floor on the drivers side. I removed the cover under my feet and saw the flap on the air vent that goes to feet just going back and forth then stops it clicks when it does this about say six times then stops. also how do you detract the hood latch so I can remove the cover all the way

This is definitely either the footwell stepper motor with a broken gear inside it or a broken flap which this motor actuates.

I had the same issue last week and fixed it today. It was the motor that had a broken gear inside it. Replaced it and it's all fixed now. Part Number for the motor is 2038201642.

The problem is that this requires almost the entire dash to be removed in order to access the motor (panel under steering wheel, shifter panel, AC panel, radio, panel, upper control panel).
